Poster of the Week

by Pablo Nanclares

Hello

I have been away for a week or two due to a busy work schedule and I am now on vacation for the next week. So I will attempt to make some extra posts to make up for it.  = ) I am currently still in Connecticut but after a trip to Providence tonight for a Gaslight Anthem show I will be heading up to New York for the Franklin Trek. I will try to post some pics.

Poster of the Week

by Matt W. Moore of MWM Graphics

Check out the MWM Graphics website at http://mwmgraphics.com/index.html . I love Matt's combination of a clean yet graffiti style look variation throughout his works. Also be sure to check out the shop page to see his calendars, posters, skateboards, and surfboards. My favorite is the wallpaper. I don't think I would put it in my bedroom but it would be an interesting addition to an office. The designs are based off of simple shapes and lines yet they bring a dynamic edge when positioned together.

FREE Graphic Design Software

I found this video interesting as I am aware of some of these programs and have them on my computer along with the Adobe CS3 Creative Design Suite. They are free and can sometimes be helpful in solving design problems on a more simplified level. It is perfect for those aspiring to learn or test out the graphic arts before investing in classes or expensive software.

Stop Motion Videos

Stop motion videos are easy to put together with good planning. The basic concept is to develop a sequence of photos in which make up different shots of a movie. As seen with the previous video of the pig photos, these must be taken at every movement or reposition of the object or in this case the pig. After all the photos have been taken they need to be put into a movie editing program and if needed the time set to create a smooth and quick transition turning the individual photos into a stop motion video.

For the video I am posting I used Adobe Photoshop to edit the images and Final Cut Pro to put them in order and time the video. I basically captured all of the photos, added the letters of the quote, re-timed parts of the video and exported it as a Quicktime file. The video as it stands still needs more editing done but it is a solid version. Let me know what you think.

Stop Motion

Next week I am hoping to do a segment on how to create short stop motion videos and maybe post one of my own.

BP Logo Gets a Makeover

If you love logos check out www.LogoDesignLove.com. It is a great site featuring logo design today in addition to vintage designs. This week I am particularly interested in the BP Logo Gets a Makeover Page. This campaign is being put on by Greenpeace USA. Go to the Greenpeace Flickr Page to check out the other submissions. I have included some here that I think you will enjoy.

Local Inspiration

Some of the best places to find inspiration is from your local environment. This may sound boring but just walk around your town or take a trip to the nearest city and you will find all sorts of public art, galleries, and diverse architecture inspired by various art periods like the Gothic or Art Deco eras. I moved to Connecticut about a year ago from Central New York and even on my move I saw lots of public art along the way. I have included some pictures from this trip.

Magnetic Photo Ropes

One of the things I deal with as a designer is incorporating some of my designs and photos into functional pieces for my home. One great idea I discovered a couple of years ago is the magnetic photo rope. Magnetic photo ropes provide an easy system for showing off your photos and light art works through the strength of small magnets. These images can be moved around and changed out to alternate photos in little time. Depending on the size of the cords, magnets, and setup used to anchor a single rope or a track of ropes to the wall, various sizes of images can be displayed and the ropes can extend as far along or down the wall as wanted. The ropes can be purchased through the store at Photojojo.com or you can save some money and build yourself a custom size arrangement. Follow these links for constructive ideas in building your own photo ropes. Personally I prefer the more clean, simple, and professional look of the vertical ropes.

I have no idea what I am doing.

So I have this blog and after seven months of doing nothing with it I suppose I will start to use it.

Here is a brief introduction. My name is Sara. I currently live in Connecticut and I am studying Graphic Design and Communications in school. I have no idea where I will go with this blog but it may include some of the following; parts of my life, basic updates, showcasing some of my work, and of course maybe some of my opinions on whatever. At this point I am excited to begin and also taking my blog as a way to relieve some of the stress in my life. Feel free to look around and leave some comments. Thanks.
